About Project

The Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) is proud to submit its blog, Palliative in Practice, for consideration for the 2024 MarCom Awards. The blog discusses important issues involving the care of people living with serious illness, and their loved ones. Experts from the palliative care field and beyond (e.g., psychiatry, oncology) share their stories and expertise on topics including, but not limited to, best practices in clinical care, health equity, clinical and training, leadership, and health care policy. These topics are divided into ten categories on the blog, with category tiles at the bottom of the blog home page.
CAPC publishes two feature-length blog posts per month, written by subject matter experts, including renowned clinicians, health care leaders, and rising stars across the country. Readership is strong, with an average of over 16,000 page views per month (which has doubled since our last submission in 2020!). To expand reach, blog posts are promoted through CAPC's email newsletters, social media channels, its website, digital advertising, and amplification by the authors themselves and partner organizations.
CAPC also posts timely, relevant news via the category "News Bites," which includes a summary of a news or journal article related to the care of people living with serious illness. This way, CAPC's blog is a clinician's one-stop shop for all news related to palliative care.
Recent feature blog posts that have driven particular interest from readers focus on clinical topics not taught in medical or nursing school, health equity concerns, and operational topics. The goal is for readers to take away tangible advice they can apply to their daily practice, hence the blog's title, Palliative in Practice. These posts include, but are not limited to:
- How to Manage Anxiety and Depression in Patients with Serious Illness (https://www.capc.org/blog/how-to-manage-anxiety-and-depression-in-patients-with-serious-illness/)
- How to Identify and Treat Fatigue in Our Patients with Serious Illness (https://www.capc.org/blog/how-to-identify-and-treat-fatigue-in-our-patients-with-serious-illness)
