About Project

The PR Wine Down Podcast was developed to reinvent the way public relations practitioners think about the industry and practice their craft. Co-hosted by journalist-turned-agency-owner April White and corporate PR veteran and consultant Laura Schooler, the show aims to disrupt the PR industry status quo. With decades of experience between them, they take on the challenges and issues in the industry with a humorous and frank perspective, expose the need for change in the culture of the PR industry, and ultimately seek to help publicists cut through the B.S. and become better at what they do.

Launched in July 2020, and with over 80 episodes and 4,000+ listens, the podcast has become a go-to resource for PR practitioners and features fun and insightful conversations with some of the most notable figures in the trade. The show, released on a semi-monthly cadence, has featured industry juggernauts including: Greg Galant, CEO of MuckRack; Doug Spong, founder and former president and managing partner of Interpublic Group's Carmichael Lynch and Spong; Gem Pinkney, the UKTV PR rep for the hit PR drama series Flack; and Diana Neille and Richard Poplak, directors of the documentary “INFLUENCE: the Rise and Fall of the World’s Most Dangerous Public Relations Company.” The show also features a number of accomplished entrepreneurs, crisis specialists, marketers, and heavy-hitters in advertising from the U.S. and abroad. The podcast is available to stream on major platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, YouTube and more.

The PR Wine Down podcast features segments designed to keep seasoned PR practitioners and rookie professionals alike up-to-date with the latest developments and trends in the industry, from crisis communications and social media, to branding, media credibility, and the future of PR as an industry. Driven to pull back the curtain on the everyday challenges PR practitioners face, White and Schooler deliver actionable advice and create a community-focused environment to support PR practitioners on issues related to client management, toxic workplace cultures, upskilling, and proving the ROI of PR to their stakeholders.

The show’s “Things I Should Have Been Trained On” segment offers the mentorship and advice of senior PR leaders to listeners who might lack that guidance in their own careers. “Anonymous PR Horror Stories” feature listener write-ins, with humorous, unfiltered and sometimes shocking stories to help listeners feel supported and empowered as they face challenges in work-life balance, harmful agency cultures, client management mistakes, professional advancement, and a gamut of other real-world career problems. The expert hosts also share stories and learning experiences from their own careers, and offer listeners advice to better navigate issues in agency leadership, PR operations, media relations, and reputation management.
