About Project
Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health, written by L. Ron Hubbard and originally released on May 9, 1950, today remains a core bestselling title for Bridge Publications and its sister publishing group in Copenhagen, Denmark, New Era Publications.
In commemoration of each newly opened Church of Scientology around the world (called an “Ideal Church or Organization of Scientology”) a customized leatherbound edition of Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health is designed and produced by Bridge Publications.
Each leatherbound edition is individually designed by a team of personnel at Bridge Publications, customized to the culture and location of the new church. Extensive research is done on the culture, history and landmarks of each area, which is then used in designing what the leatherbound book will look like. Everything from the image stamped on the back of the book to the endsheet paper and the color of the leather reflect the motif of the Church itself.
There are only 500 copies of each edition produced, each hand-numbered for the collector. This is the only production run of these leatherbound books, and they are not reproduced once sold out.
The leatherbound edition being submitted to the Hermes Creative Awards for this year corresponds to Chicago.
The color of the leather of the book was selected to match the motif of the building of the Church of Scientology in Chicago.
The figure featured on the back of the book is the Chicago skyline. The endsheets are handmade marble paper produced in the UK; these endsheets were chosen because their classic look and matching color.
