About Project

Breakthroughs Magazine is published annually to highlight cancer research and clinical advances from Yale Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Hospital. The 2022 issue was structured around the topic of "Diminishing Disparities in Cancer" and "Creating a Cancer Network Focused on Diminishing Disparities." This issue reflects the work and mission of Yale to diminish cancer disparities for all and dedicate resources moving forward to address the challenges that communities across our nation face accessing cancer care. Topics for articles were carefully chosen to appropriately display various innovative programs, education, outreach, and research underway as we work together to improve access to cancer care and to make an impact on the lives of patients. We recognize that disparities exist in many minority populations or those who have been traditionally marginalized. To tackle these issues, we are collaborating with our leaders in education, community outreach, and diversity, equity, and inclusion to identify the challenges and reduce the disparities. The results are ongoing, but the hope with this issue is to raise awareness of disparities that exist in cancer care, and to start an open dialogue on effective strategies to mitigate these, and possible future areas of focus.
