About Project

Introducing the first Mixed Reality Automotive Dealership. This virtual operation recently had a grand opening during a national skills event for Sales, Service and Parts professionals. This experience allows participants to move between the Showroom, Service Department and Conference Room without leaving the physical room. Within the virtual departments, team members from different departments work together to converse with Avatar customers, repair a digital vehicle in a state-of-the-art service facility and work together to solve group challenges.

There are several innovations that combined to make this project a reality. For example:
• Leveraging the benefits of Mixed Reality using a Hololens 2 allows multiple participants to interact while also being immersed in the virtual environment.
• The Avatar characters share their stories and answer questions using speech recognition while keeping eye contact in the process.
• The Digital vehicle can move through the process, has doors that can open, tires that can be inspected and parts that can be removed or installed.
• The service equipment can be reconfigured with the touch of a button to handle the type of diagnosis, inspection or repair that is taking place.
• Overlaying 3 different virtual worlds in one physical space provides a different way for people from across the organization to look at the business.
• Interactive game boards provided a way for teams to work together to answer different types of questions relevant to the business.

This digital dealership platform opens the door to new ways to train on customer handling skills and vehicle repair techniques. It also provides a way to foster collaboration to solve problems and answer challenging questions.
