About Project
New York Blood Center trains a large number of phlebotomy students every year, a process that traditionally depends on physical classrooms, limited equipment, commuting, and early practice on real patients. To overcome these limitations, 3DforScience developed a gamified Virtual Reality training experience that allows students to practice venipuncture protocols anytime and anywhere within a highly realistic simulation.
The experience recreates the technical precision of blood extraction in VR, including correct needle angles, vein assessment, and step-by-step procedural accuracy. Through intuitive controller interactions, students can safely repeat standard and complex scenarios, building confidence and muscle memory before working with real patients.
By moving training into VR, New York Blood Center reduced costs, minimized commuting, optimized physical resources, and standardized education across locations—demonstrating how immersive technology can redefine clinical training as a scalable, patient-safe learning model.
